Osasuna falls 4-0 to Atlético de Madrid

Defender Robin Le Normand, midfielders Kang-In Lee and Álex Baena, and forward Jonathan David scored for the home side.

Club Atlético Osasuna (2-1-3, 7 points) lost 4-0 to Atlético de Madrid (4-1-1, 13 points) on Wednesday night at Riydah Air Metropolitano. Forward Jonathan David opened the scoring in the first half. Midfielder Kang-In Lee and defender Robin Le Normand added to the lead early in the second half, and midfielder Álex Baena capped the victory for the home team.

Atlético controlled possession and created early chances, but Osasuna forward Raúl García had the first clear opportunity. In the 13th minute, Raúl Moro led a counterattack and played a through ball to García, who went one-on-one with goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Oblak made the save to keep the match scoreless. Nine minutes later, David scored on a rebound inside Osasuna’s penalty area to give Atlético the lead.

Just past the half-hour mark, defender Iñigo Arguibide appeared to have equalized, but the referee disallowed the goal for a previous foul by midfielder Lucas Torró. Although the challenge between Torró and Le Normand appeared clean, the referee’s decision stood, and VAR did not review the play.

Goalkeeper Aitor Fernández made a double save just before halftime, stopping an attempt by Kang-In and the rebound from David.

Atlético dominated the second half. In the 54^th minute, Kang-In scored with a right-footed shot past Fernández. Ten minutes later, Le Normand found a loose ball in the box to make it 3-0. Baena finished the scoring by collecting a through ball and sending it into the bottom right corner.

Osasuna returns to El Sadar on Saturday, Sept. 19, to face Rayo Vallecano in Week 7 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CET (1 p.m. BST, 8 a.m. ET).
